Ballpark Day for the Families of Fallen NYC Heroes
The New York Police And Fire Widows' And Children's Benefit Fund
The New York Police & Fire Widows' & Children's Benefit Fund (Answer the Call) was founded in 1985 by New York Mets Hall of Famer, Daniel "Rusty" Staub to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty and to provide support to the families they have left behind. In total, they have distributed over $130 million dollars to the the families of our fallen first responders. Last year alone, they distributed over $2.4 million dollars and served nearly 600 families. In addition to providing financial assistance in the form of an annual stipend, they provide the families with special events and a sense of community.
Each year, they invite 66 families of our fallen first responders to be their guests at a New York Mets game. They host a pre-game party with free food, drinks, and activities for the kids. A couple of the children even get to throw out the first pitch. It is their oldest tradition and a very special day for the children, widows, and widowers. The families come together to reconnect with old friends and make new ones. Each year, they are reminded that our city has not forgotten about them or the sacrifice made by their loved ones.
This RoomFunding Project helps cover the ticket costs for 250 children of fallen first responders.
