Blues and Jazz Music in Schools
Foundations of Music

Chicago, IL      Arts

Foundations of Music provides music education in Chicago, specifically focusing on schools in the most disadvantaged neighborhoods of the city. Foundations of Music believes music education is for every child regardless of socioeconomic status. The organization’s classes and curricula are based on the Chicago Guide to Teaching and Learning in the Arts as well as the nine national standards and state standards for music education and social emotional learning guidelines.

At Foundations of Music, professional musicians and educators teach all classes. Programs include General Music/Choir, Songwriting and Production, Honors Choir, Blues Workshop & Jazz Workshop (piloting 2015). Field trips and in class guest artists are also part of the enrichment offered as an aspect of the artist residency programs. Foundations of Music serves over 5,000 students annually at more than 20 Chicago Public Schools.

This RoomFunding Project will fund 20 Blues and Jazz Workshops -- impacting 5,000 students.
